Term 4 - Weeks 1-3

This term we have been learning about The Rainbow Fish for our storytelling focus. We are very good at retelling the story using our story maps or stepping out the story using our actions. We have made some gorgeous artwork you can see below.

Our shared reading book last week was Hetty Hackett's Farm. We completed some great writing based on this book.
We had a great time visiting Merle Leask Kindergarten to see the new students who will be joining our class either this year or early next year.

On Miss Patricks last day she gave us all some bubbles. This week our poem is also about bubbles.
We got given our last Duffy Books for 2021. Thank you to Ashburton Westpac Bank and our Home and School for helping with sponsoring these books. We know how lucky we are to get these.
We created some blossom artwork with Mrs McCully.

Term 3 Week 4 - Covid Lockdown Learning Suggestions

 Room 7 students and Whānau,

Morning everyone, I am hoping you got my text this morning to check in and let you know what is happening. If you haven’t, can you please email me on bridget@netherby.school.nz and I will get your number updated in our school system.

Over the next three days here are some learning activities or suggestions you can look at and use as you wish to support your child's learning at home.

Reading:

  • All word containers have been updated on Monday, so the students all have new words to learn. Play memory or find these around your house.

  • All students will have this week's reading book in their reading folder that can also be used to practice. Due to Covid the Little Learners Love Literacy books that we pay $10 each for are being offered on apple to be downloaded for free. If you wish to do this just type into your apple account “Pip and Tim” and you can easily download the coloured level of books your child is currently reading. Please only download the current level they are working on.

  • Read a story to your child and ask them to retell what has happened.

  • Listen to stories online. https://www.sunshineonline.co.nz/

Writing:

  • Make some playdough using the recipe below and create letters. Move these together to make words or a sentence.

  • Write the words from your word container.

  • Write your name or a sentence outside with chalk.

  • Write a sentence about one thing you have been up to during the day and bring it to school on Monday to show Miss Patrick

Maths:

  • Count forwards and backwards to and from 50.

  • Ask your child the number that comes ‘before’ and ‘after’ a number to 20.

  • Get them to write the numbers and check they are facing the correct direction.

  • Find numbers around your house or count sets of objects such as stones or sticks.

Extra’s:

  • Play outside in the sunshine and spend quality time with the people in your bubble.

  • Make an obstacle course that you can hop over, go under or go through.

  • See how many different birds are in your garden.

  • Create a piece of artwork that you can bring to school and give to a friend or your neighbour.

  • Learn how to tie your shoelaces.

If you need more learning choices refer back to the goals or work ons we set at teacher/parent interviews last week.

Stay safe, be kind and enjoy these three extra days at home in your bubble.

Miss Patrick

Term 1 - Weeks 5, 6 and 7

We are loving learning about birds. We have been doing this as part of our Inventors Topic. We have observed birds in our school, designed bird feeders and are now making them. We are going to place them around our school to attract more birds to our environment.

We loved swim week. It was great for us to gain our water confidence and learn new swimming skills.

We are loving our new sensory table. We have been practising our cutting skills and learning to co-operate and work with a range of other students playing games and using our imaginations.
We have been learning PMP skills to increase our movement abilities. This helps younger students to improve their eye/hand and eye/foot co-ordination, fitness, balance, locomotion and eye-tracking skills.
