Term 2 Week 5

Room 6 had the best "Gingerbread Man" themed day today. We learnt how to read and follow a recipe, we measured and followed instructions, we baked our Gingerbread Men, we graphed our information about "what bite did you take first?", created art by decorating our Gingerbread Men, wrote about our baking and we showed our Netherby Pride by sharing our Gingerbread Men with Room 1A and our whānau at home. A big thank you to Ally for helping us bake today.
Check out the video below we made of our storytelling learning for our assembly last week.
We loved making this gorgeous artwork to be displayed in the school office for Mr Wheeler and our visitors to look at.
We have had a great week celebrating Samoan language week. We loved the dance display by the Pasifika dance group on Friday at school.

Week 3

We celebrated support staff day this week. All of our amazing teacher aides received special cards made by the students for all of their fantastic help and things they do to help our learning.
With our Reduce, Reuse and Recycle topic this term we got to take a class trip to the Eco Centre. We learnt where the things we recycle go to and got to pick some tin cans and bottles to make the stationary holders that we have designed.
We have been working in buddies to solve problems. We are learning that there are lots of different ways to represent and solve a problem to get the correct answer.
On Speak up, stand together and stop bullying day we were lucky enough to have Elgregoe visit our school. His magic showed reinforced ways we can help others and what to do if someone is bullying us.

We have been deepening our knowledge about the Gingerbread Man story. We got the step out the story in groups, pretend we where different characters from the story and get interviewed and we made a Wanted Poster.
We had St Johns come and teach us about being safe this week.
We had some gorgeous knitted slippers and hats donated to us for the winter. We love these and have written thank you letters to the people who gave them to us.

Term 2 Week 1

Welcome back to everyone. We have had a very busy week in Room 6.
The pictures below are of the great storytelling learning we have been doing about "The Gingerbread Man".
Our story maps, plot matrix and mood map.
After we created our story maps we used our maps to tell our whānau the story.
This is a play based learning station that we can use to re-enact the story during reading time using puppets.
During reading time we are also allowed to use our new whiteboard tables to story map or drawing the characters in the story.
We spent some time with Room 1A telling the our stories using our maps. The seniors loved listening to us.
These are our mood maps. We mapped out how the Gingerbread was feeling throughout the story. Above the line means he was happy and below means sad or upset. Next week we will be looking different words we can use instead of happy and sad such as nervous.

We have had Fran in this week to teach us about Road Safety.
 Kia ora Whānau,

As part of Oral Language time, we will be doing “Me bags”. Please help your child to select 5 items (such as photos, hobby items or a favourite toy) for their bag. By doing this, we hope our class will learn more about your child’s life outside of school. It would be helpful if you could support your child at home to practice what they are going to say in preparation. Please have these back to School by Friday 10th May (Fri Week 2).
Below are the students who have already brought their bags back.
