Term 1 Week 8

This week is a very busy and short week.
On Tuesday we had Room 5 join us because Mrs Bodie-Rouse was sick.
We talked about Easter and made some special art work.
For maths we went outside to find treasures. We had to collect different numbers of different items. We talked about if we had 2 more items how many would we then have. We also put some treasures back and counted them again. We loved learning outside.
We had been working really hard this week, so we got a wee treat of going into the Staff Room and having Milo's. We also talked about healthy options and how we should drink water and not fizzy.

Term 1 Week 7

This week we made art as part with our topic 'We All Belong'. The first piece of art we created was Rainbow Fish. Before making our art we read the book, watched the video clip and made the our rainbow fish puzzles. We had a big talk about how everyone is different and that this is a good thing. We also talked about sharing and helping others like rainbow fish did in the story by giving his sparkly scales to the other fish.
We also made insects. These were linked into our maths learning with statistics and counting the objects we collected to make the back grounds.
We loved reading and listening to the book Fantail, Fantail. It was a great book to take home and share with our Whanau.
Mark visited us on Friday to help with our ball skills. We are getting a lot better at having our hands ready for catching.
On Friday afternoon the school spent their afternoon outside completing a range of activities. We had a great time learning how to work with people we usually don't, how to help each other and try new things.

Term 1 Week 6

We are having a very busy week. One of our maths groups have been learning how to add numbers together by counting all the materials.
We let the last of our gorgeous butterflies fly free this week. We had a great time following them around the playground, while they were trying to find their new home.

We had our weekly library visit on Monday. We have learnt to be very quiet in the library. We make sure we whisper and tip toe. We love reading books and being able to take them home to share with our friends and Whanau.

One of our fantastic Room 6 helpers brought a birds nest to school. We did a lot of talking about why birds have nests, what they are made from and how they make them. We found out that this nest was made from feathers, straw, string, leaves and lots of other things.

Term 1 Week 5

Thank you to everyone for coming to 3 Way Conferences this week. The relationship we have with each students family and whanau has a significant impact on their learning. It was great for the students to share their learning with you and to set goals.

We are having a great time swimming this week. We have been learning how to be safe around water. Miss Patrick is amazed by how our confidence has grown this week.
This is us patiently waiting for our lesson and practicing our letter formations.
We were lucky to have Captain Cash visit us at Netherby. She spoke to us about different types of money and needs/wants. We loved having a clue hunt around the classroom and learning about money.

Our shared reading book for this week is called "Lost". It is about a creature who gets lost. We loved this book because it also came in a smaller size, that we could each take home and share with our whanau. Here are our own creatures we created using fur.
