Term 4 - Weeks 8 & 9

Room 6 had the best time on our class adventure. We visited a farm, Lagmhor School, Trott's Garden and Mitre 10 Mega. A big thank you to all the places and people we got to visit and to Mrs McCully for organising this trip. Also to Ally for helping out. We learnt lots and had a great day. 
 We were lucky enough to be invited along to listen to the Mid Canterbury Choir sing Christmas carols on Monday. 
 We had several students represent us in the Hakatere Festival. 
 Last Friday we had our end of year trip to the Tinwald Domian. We went swimming, on a train ride, bouncy castles, had a sausage sizzle and ice-blocks for lunch. We even had a visit from Santa on the tractor. A big thank you to Mrs McCully and Miss Sloan for arranging this. All the students had a blast.

Weeks 6 & 7

We have been learning TeeBall. We are getting a lot better at hitting the ball and being good team players when fielding. 
 We enjoyed learning about thunder, lightening and hail this week when we got to see 2 very interesting storms. 
We have been practicing skip counting in twos. We had to work with buddies to make sets of two and count them up to 20.

Weeks 3 - 5

We have been extremely busy in Room 6. 

We have been learning about teeth hygiene and how to brush our teeth. We have been brushing them every day after lunch. 
 We had a great visit to the kindy to meet the new students who will be starting with us in 2020. 

We have been writing our high frequency words.

Term 4 - Weeks 1 & 2

We have had a very busy start to the term. 

This term we are learning about the Rainbow Fish. We love acting out the story and sharing it with each other. We have been completing lots of different activities to expand our knowledge about the story.  We have also made some gorgeous artwork in Room 6 if you wish to come and look.
 We had Pet Hour in Week 1. We all made pet rocks to take and one of our students got an award for making a kennel at home for his toy with his Dad. He also brought along his pet dog to complete in the obstacle course. 
 We are learning about the Solar System and are making paper mache planets. These are going to be on display in Room 6 to help us learn the planets in order. 
 We participated in the National Wide Shake Out Day. We learnt to stop, cover and hold. 
We had Cluster Athletics Day. Luckily for us it didn't rain and we all had a great day.

Weeks 9 & 10

We got to eat a delicious Hangi on the last week of term. Thank you very much to the Whānau Hui group for organising, cooking and letting us experience this. 
Mr Wallis has been teaching us in Room 6 this week. We love having an extra teacher in our classroom to help us with our learning. 
We enjoyed having Harold visit us week. It was great to learn about what things are healthy for our bodies and different body parts. 
 Miss Patrick ordered us this great writing kit. We have to go fishing and choose letters that represent fruits and vegetables to go in sandwiches. 
 We had Stella a Duffy Role Model talk to us about animals that are considered a pest in NZ. We all got two books each to read over the holidays. Thanks Duffy Books, we are very proud to be a Duffy School!
 We have been working really hard on our math problem solving. 
Last week we got to fly some kites and eat some yummy muffins that Miss Patrick made us as a treat.

Week 8

This week is Te Reo Māori week. Mr Wallis our student teacher has been teaching us a Waiata for us to sing at this weeks celebration assembly. 
We created these gorgeous art works. Our creations are all different as each koru represents a member of our family. 

 On Wednesday we had our Netherby World Cup. It was a great afternoon completing sports activities in our whānau groups and presenting the cultural dances we learnt. A big thank you to our Home and School who gave us each a sausage and ice-block. 
We created some colourful cats for our letter "c" this week. We wrote about them and used the Māori words for colours. 
In maths this week we have been looking at different ways numbers can be represented. We have also been learning how to skip count in 5's.

Week 6

In week 6 we made healthy sandwiches. We designed a healthy sandwich to help with our fitness linked to the Rugby World Cup, next we learnt how to write a shopping list and then we got to make our own. Our faces on our sandwiches are our self reflection about liking our sandwich that we had planned. 
We did this gorgeous artwork based on Greedy Cat. We used charcoal. 
We made our own rugby jerseys using print making and added our faces to make a rugby team.

Weeks 4 & 5

Weeks 4 & 5 
We are very lucky to have Mrs Bailey helping us in Room 6 for 4 weeks. We have been busy making rugby jerseys by print making for our Rugby World Cup Topic.
Hedy has also been teaching us a Samoan dance for us to present at our whānau afternoon. Room 6 have loved learning about different cultures in our Ruby World Cup focus. 

We wrote instructions on how to make sock puppets and then we got to make the ones we had planned and explained in our writing.
Everyone was very proud of our 2 Room 6 representatives for the Poetry competition. 


We have been learning lots of different stories. 
We are getting a lot better at sharing our equipment and ideas at maths time to solve problems.

Weeks 2 & 3

We have had a very busy two weeks in Room 6. 

We have been learning about Maui and the Sun and we created this gorgeous artwork. We made a collaborative one to be displayed in our classroom and individuals ones that are displayed in the School office. We are very proud of the way these turned out. 
 Our shared book for week 2 was "Elephant is Stuck!". We loved this book and spoke, wrote and created many things based on it. Here is the artwork we did with Mrs McCully. 

Week 3 was Swim Week. We absolutely loved this great opportunity to learn how to swim. Miss Patrick was very proud of all of us and the progress we made. We had several different people comment on our amazing behaviour and manners while being at the pool.
We had a great time at the Home and School Disco Fundraiser at the end of week 1. It was pretty spooky haha.
