Term 2 Week 9

Room 6 are extremely grateful for the gorgeous gloves we received from the Red Cross. They are super warm and soft. We love wearing them to school on frosty mornings. We wrote them a special card to show our appreciation.

Constable Chris came to teach us about Keeping Ourselves Safe. We got to ask him lots of questions and then he took us out to practice crossing the road safely.

We have been learning about helping each other out and using kind words to support each other. This is us using the balancing beams to help everyone get across.

We are getting very excited for our new learning space to be finished. Mr Wheeler thinks it will be ready in another 2 weeks. We cannot wait to be able to work in this lovely new area.

Wahoooo our production is only one week away. Today we had a dress rehearsal. We are keeping our costumes a secret until the show next week, but here is a glimpse of parts of them.
Mr Wheeler and our Teacher Aides were very impressed with all the students today.

Term 2 - Weeks 7 and 8

These are the gorgeous bowls we made as part of our Recycling topic. We got to eat popcorn from our special bowls.

As part of our Recycling topic we also made our own paper. These are the steps we used to make it...
1: We soaked the recycled shredded paper in water and dye.
2: Next we put it in the food processor, which cut it into little pieces.
3: After this we put a handful of mixture on our mesh frames and sponged all the excess water out of it.
4: Finally we placed our paper in the sun to dry.
Once our paper was dry we added glitter, then photos and turned them into photo-frames to take home for our Whanau.
Miss Patrick brought us some new maths equipment. We have been using the penguins to make groups of 5. We have also been using the new blocks to make coloured patterns.
We went on a frost hunt. We had a great time slipping and sliding in the frost.

We made invites to our parents. All our Whanau are invited to our classroom for a shared writing session. This is on Wednesday 29th June from 9 - 10am.

This week was our last week of hockey skills. We have learnt how hold a hockey stick properly and how to control the ball.

Term 2 Week 6

We have been making bowls as part of our recycling topic. Mrs Hunt our office lady has been saving us the recycled shredded paper. With this we made these fantastic bowls and decorated them with glitter.
We are allowed to eat fruit out of them next week.

We loved looking at all the books that Scholastic has for sale. We had a scavenger hunt through the magazine and talked out our favourite books and why.

On Wednesday we had a celebration day to show our appreciation for all the support staff we have at Netherby. We had a special morning tea.

We have been working really hard to sound out our words. Here are Thursdays best writers - they even got a principals award from Mr Wheeleer.

We have been leaning about sketching. We drew these penguins as part of our production and then used pastels and dye to give them texture.

Term 2 Week 4 & 5

Miss Patrick has brought us these special necklaces. We have a word and the letter on it that we are learning for the day. When we are in the playground people ask us what we are learning. We love having these and sharing them with everyone at Netherby.

Room 6 have been learning about recycling. We are trying to have less packets in our lunch boxes, but with the ones that we have we are making gorgeous art work with it.

Miss Patrick came to school with a special surprise. We had to use the clues she gave us to guess what the surprise could be. After we had completed our story writing we were allowed to go to the staffroom and have some of the massive carrot.

The junior school are busy learning their lines and songs for our production. We would like to make a massive Thank You to the Bunnings Warehouse in Ashburton for the generous donation of materials for us to make costumes with.

We were very lucky and had Merle Leask Kindy come to visit us. We loved showing them what we do in Room 6 and meeting the students who are going to be joining our class soon.
