Term 3 - Week 1

Talofa lava, Kia orana, Fakaalofa lahi atu, Talofa ni, Kia ora and Hello

A warm welcome back to term 3. Miss Patrick is very excited to be back from visiting the 5 schools overseas.
Our topic focus this term is Nga Taonga o te Iwi - To celebrate Māori culture and its importance to wider New Zealand culture. We have started to learn our colours in Māori, the history of the koru and about kōwhaiwhai patterns. On Tuesday we learnt how to draw koru and loved using our special sketching pencils. Please make sure your whānau return their family tree information asap.
We have been working hard during reading time to learn all our alphabet letters, high frequency words and to illustrate the stories we have read.
In maths we have been learning to recognise numbers quickly and to make groups of up to 10 items. We have also been practicing how to write our numbers correctly.
Miss Patricks little sister came to help Room 6 paint our family trees and make some biscuits. We loved getting to ice our biscuits with koru patterns and loved eating them even more.
The Junior School had an amazing time during Discovery this week. The students enjoyed exploring our Māori topic through lots of different activities. A big thank you to Cassie and Roz for supporting the children to make Matariki flax flowers.

We love sharing our ideas or news in a doughnut style.
As part of our winter fitness the entire school meets in the hall 3 days a week to learn some Jump Jam. Thank you to our Home and School group for buying us some new songs this year.
