Term 4 Week 8

This week we have been busy writing, reading and counting linked to Christmas. We have had a great time making these posters with 6 different Christmas pieces of art work. 
 We had the best time in Christchurch on Wednesday. We loved visiting the Art Gallery, Museum and the Margaret Mahy playground. We were very lucky with the weather and all had a great day. 


Room 6 would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Term 4 Week 6

Room 6 have been missing having Mrs Calder to help us with our learning. We wish her all the best back at University and hope that she comes back to visit.  
On Monday we had the White Ribbon Riders visit Netherby School. The students learnt an important message and loved looking at the motorbikes in the rain. 
 We had a fantastic time at Flower Hour last week. We loved making our flower Christmas decorations with our Whānau.

Term 4 Week 4

On Monday we all tried lemon as we were learning about the letter "l". It was great to hear and see all the descriptive vocabulary in our story writing. 
 We have been making a paper machè Magpie as this is the main character in our Magpie's Magnet story this term. 
 Mr Wheeler, Mrs Calder and Ally helped out with making hedgehogs and houses. We had a great time making them and then writing about our hedgehogs. 
 We have been having lots of fun exploring with magnets. We also made some creative artwork with magnets and bolts/nails. We are really going to miss Mrs Calder next week.

Term 4 Week 3

Thank you to everyone who came to the Pasifika Fono on Thursday afternoon. It was great to talk to you all to help increase our knowledge about how we can support our Pasifika students and families. The students in the Pasifika group from Room 6 had an amazing time on stage. 
We loved visiting the A & P show and getting to see the art and Grasshead entries we had made. 
We have been working very hard on adding numbers.

Term 4 Week 2

Netherby School is very lucky to have amazing teacher aides and support staff. These great people bring extra knowledge and expertise to our school. The students and staff all benefit from this. 
Room 6 was lucky enough to have Roz with the support of Ally and Lisa (our student teacher) to learn about the Māori protocols of flax gathering and weaving to support our letter focus of “f” on Wednesday. 
The students loved this opportunity; it was a great purposeful way to incorporate Māori culture into our everyday learning. Have a look at the video we made to share our learning with you.

We had a great time at Cluster Athletics on Tuesday at School. It was very warm, but we had a great day.

Term 4 Week 1

This week we have had the Life Education truck and Harold visiting us. We learnt about what feelings are, what makes us special and unique and how we can tell what others are feeling. 
On Thursday we participated in the Nationwide shake out drill. From this Room 6 read and explored the Quaky Cat book and wrote stories about how Tiger felt in the earthquake. This linked in really well with our focus on feelings during our Harold visit. 
We also visit Merle Leask Kindy and had a great time playing with the students who will be starting in Room 6 soon. 
We have been learning about electricity. We had an amazing time making circuits with our special electronic kits.

Term 3 Week 9

Thank you to all the whānau who came to our Term 3 family afternoon. We had a great time learning our dances for you and enjoyed sharing the healthy fruit kebabs we made and our writing with you all. 

We have been learning about teeth hygiene. We love brushing our teeth after lunch each day. 
 We made some very funny looking wheat people for the Ashburton A & P show next term. We are patiently waiting for their hair to grow. Come into Room 6 and see the awesome clothes we made them. 
 We have been enjoying our athletics sessions before next terms Cluster Athletics Day. This is us and Room 7 at the Fun Games station.

Term 3 Week 7

 Last week we had school swimming. We all made great progress and thoroughly enjoyed the week. 
This week we had an ASB Get Wise person here to teach us about money and saving.
We have been learning how to make groups to 5 using cards.  
We love our new puzzles to help us learn the letter order of our names.

Term 3 Week 5

We were very proud of everyone who was part of the Poetry and Speech Competition. It was great to see everyone present with such confidence. 
We have been working extremely hard on our writing. We are working on being able to write 1 sentence independently and use our alphabet sound knowledge to write unknown words.

Term 3 Week 3

Ally made Room 6 a bag full of sensory objects to help us practise our breathing activities we have been learning about in Relaxed Kids. 
We have been working really hard on being able to make, say the letters and write our own names.

Term 3 Week 1

We have been learning about the letters 'm', 's', 'i', 't' and 'a' this week. We love making things to help us remember them. 
This week we started Relaxed Kids. Sue came to teach us how to relax and regain focus to help our learning. 
 We have been learning about Heroes. Real life Heroes and Super Heroes. We talked about what they do and who they are. We are being kindness heroes in Room 6 this week. 
This term the whole school meets in the hall on a Tuesday and a Thursday morning to do Jump Jam. This is part of our fitness programme for Winter.

Weeks 7 & 8

We had a great visit from the Firewise people. We loved having them to visit and the books we got to take home to share with our whānau. 
We had a very funny Asthma show visit. It was great to learn about Asthma and how we can help people. 
 Our first dress rehearsal for Junior Production went really well. We are all very excited to put on our 2 shows next week.

Term 2 Week 5 & 6

Last week we had a great time at Cross Country at Chertsey School. Miss Patrick was very proud of us and our effort. 
We are loving our new number puzzles Miss Patrick made. These have been helping us to order numbers. 
 We had Mrs Hunt as a special visitor to Room 6. She read us a new book. We loved having her to visit. 
 We have been practicing really hard for our Junior Production. We only have 2 weeks left of practise before our show. 
We had a great time during this Fun Friday painting activity. 
This is us at Kiwi Can learning how to be a responsible leader.

Term 2 Week 3

We had Merle Leask Kindergarten come to visit us this week. We showed them around our classroom and showed them some learning activities. 
We had Liz from Storytelling in each of our classes this week. We loved showing her The Three Little Pigs. 
 We have been learning groups to 5. The penguins help us to visually see how to make them in different ways. 

Last week we learnt about Road Safety. We had plenty of turns outside at crossing the road.

Term 2 Week 2

 We love our weekly library and buddy reading sessions with Room 3. 
We were very very lucky and all got given a pair of slipper socks to keep in Room 6 for the winter. We wrote about our socks and sent the special person who gave us them a card from us. 
On Tuesday we went outside on a number hunt. We also found certain amounts of objects to help practise our one to one matching skills. 
We had the best time playing in the leaves and learning lots of new words such as "rustling, scrunching and bumpy". We got to pick our favourite leaf to write about.
